There is very little information on the background of the Coton de Tulear which is what intrigued us about them. It is thought that they are related to the French Bichons and the Italian Bolognese and that they were companions of the wealthy people of Tulear in Madagascar - southeast of Africa - dating back to the 15th Century. They were brought to the US in ' 71.
The Coton de Tulears have a cotton candy fluffy coat of long hair that's usually white and is never coarse and never oily. They're non-allergenic and non-shedders. They are a very gentle, affectionate and alert type of dog. They're a great family dog that's a good watch dog. They love wide open spaces, they like swimming, they're charming and not barkie. They're intelligent and they form a strong bond with their master. The Cotons are a bundle of joy and will weigh 9-12 lbs. and will be 8.5 - 12" at the shoulders.
The Cotons are a healthy breed that lives 14 to 18 years.
Our parent dogs are all up-to-date on their vaccinations and they're given a yearly health exam by our veterinarian to help ensure that there are no health problems.
Our puppies/dogs are kept in specially built nursery which is heated/air conditioned and humidity controlled- kept at 70 degrees year-round. We recommend feeding a high quality dog food to keep your dog healthy and the coat looking good. After the puppies have had their first vaccination, ensuring they will grow strong and develop a healthy immune system, people are welcome to visit them. When our Coton de Tulear pups are ready to go, they will have been veterinarian checked, up-to date on his shots, dewormed, dewclaws removed and we give a written health guarantee for 2 years for any hereditary or congenital disease. By this time the puppies have been socialized with us, our children and grandchildren and spent time in our indoor or outdoor runs depending on the weather.
If shipping is required, it will include freight charge, an airline approved dog crate, insurance, a USDA health certificate from our veterinarian, a doggy bone, a small bag of dog food attached to the top of the kennel (we want you to keep your puppy on our food for 2 days and then start blending it with yours after that) and also paperwork.
